Petaluma Arts Center: September 17-October 24, 2026

“It’s Not Trash: Reclaiming and Transforming” brings together 50 artists working with reclaimed materials. The artists transform what may be perceived as “trash” into reimagined art objects. Their works investigate place, culture, history, and family while also considering shape, form, color, and texture. Curated by Lisa Lightman, the exhibition is presented in partnership with the Recology Artist-in-Residence Program in San Francisco, Petaluma’s Reuse Alliance, and the Recology Artstart Student Hub (TRASH), led by Recology Sonoma Marin.

Rather than directly instructing viewers about sustainability and waste, the exhibition emphasizes the quiet alchemy of transforming discarded materials into objects of fascination and reflection. Through this act of transformation, the artists invite audiences to reconsider assumptions about value and recognize how change may be possible in the world around them.

The 47th annual San Francisco Decorator Showcase — a design event and home tour that invites several top Bay Area designers to transform a home in the city — is open to the public from April 25 through May 25, 2026. Sonoma County Magazine featured the event.  “…Maker & Moss’s design of “The Study” features several artworks by Petaluma abstract artist Lisa Lightman. Her piece “Highway 101 in The Morning” sits above the chaise. (Brad Knipstein Photography).  The yellow in Lightman’s piece was a natural match for the punchy-colored chair, according to principal Maker & Moss designer Briana Tunison, who worked on the room with the firm’s founder, Matt Bissinger. Several of Lightman’s pieces are placed throughout the space.”

It’s a curated list created by the Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity to celebrate and recognize 100 individuals who apply curiosity as a tool to tackle major societal challenges. I’m deeply honored to be a part of this amazing list of past and present honorees. My artwork, Botanical Fourteen, was selected for the Petaluma Arts Center’s 15th Anniversary Wine Label Series. This is a joint project with Barber Cellars, a small family winery in Petaluma.
